Aittovaara-Pyhänselkä,
400+110 kV powerline

Environmental impact assessment finalised

Info

We are planning the construction of a transmission line to connect the Aittovaara and Mustasuo–Tynnyrikorpi wind and solar power projects to the electricity grid. The starting point of the transmission line will be the Aittovaara wind farm substation, and the endpoint will be either Fingrid’s planned Vuotto substation or the existing Pyhänselkä substation. The route will run through the municipalities of Pudasjärvi, Utajärvi, Oulu, and Muhos, and its length will vary depending on the connection point, being approximately 34 or 64 kilometers. The municipal center of Muhos is located about 4–5 kilometers from the endpoint of the transmission line route.

You can join the mailing list for the transmission line project by sending an email to info(at)tuulialfa.fi. The message should clearly state the intention to subscribe to (or unsubscribe from) the Aittovaara–Pyhänselkä transmission line mailing list.

The transmission line can be implemented either by installing both 400 kV and 110 kV lines on the same pylons, or as a standalone 400 kV or 110 kV line, depending on the amount of electrical energy to be transmitted. An environmental impact assessment (EIA) has been carried out for the project, and the competent authority issued its reasoned conclusion on 4 April 2025. In accordance with the precautionary principle, the environmental impact assessment examined the impacts of a combined 400+110 kV transmission line, as this option requires the largest structures and involves more densely spaced pylons compared to standalone 400 kV or 110 kV transmission lines. Research permits were granted on 24 April 2025 and are legally binding.
